What is a moisture meter?

A moisture meter is an important tool if you want to monitor the humidity in your home or workplace. High humidity can affect the indoor climate, health, and thus increase the risk of mold. Low humidity can also have a negative impact, as it can cause dry mucous membranes and wear on your furniture, among other things. Therefore, it is essential to have a moisture meter to keep an eye on the indoor climate.

Why should one use a moisture meter?

A moisture meter is a necessary tool for monitoring and controlling humidity levels in the home or workplace. A moisture meter helps maintain a healthy and comfortable indoor air quality, as well as protects buildings and furnishings from damage caused by excessive humidity. There are many types of moisture meters, ranging from digital hygrometers to advanced sensors that can be installed in a building. It is important to choose the right moisture meter for your needs to achieve accurate measurements. By using a moisture meter, one can avoid the consequences of high moisture, such as mold and mildew, and maintain a healthy and comfortable indoor environment.

When looking for the right moisture meter, it is important to consider where it will be used. Should it be used to monitor moisture in a building or in the soil? Each situation requires a specific type of moisture meter that fits the task.

All in all, moisture meters are an easy and reliable way to monitor and control moisture in various environments.

How to avoid poor indoor climate with a moisture meter for moisture measurement

There can be several situations where it is necessary to measure moisture. For example, you may need a moisture meter if you are dealing with a poor indoor climate where the humidity is too high. You may also need a moisture meter that can measure moisture in concrete. Likewise, if you have experienced water damage, you can measure the moisture percentage in the floor, wall, or ceiling – this depends on how extensive the water damage has been. To measure moisture in materials, you need to use a moisture meter.

It is important to be aware that the moisture content in materials should not exceed 15-18%, as this causes mold. Additionally, you can measure the moisture in the indoor climate with a hygrometer. Here, it is important that the humidity does not exceed 75%.

How to measure humidity with a moisture meter

Do you need to assess the indoor climate to ensure that you have relative humidity? Does it seem overwhelming to figure out how to measure the humidity in your home or workplace? At Buhl & Bønsøe, we have created a guide on how to correctly find the humidity using a moisture meter.

  • Ensure that neither body heat nor the air you exhale comes into contact with the sensor or your moisture meter
  • To achieve the best results with your moisture meter, always move the sensor gently when measuring humidity
  • Observe the acclimatization time for hygrometers and sensors
  • Measure humidity with a thermo-hygrometer at a height of about 1.1 meters in the middle of the room

Moisture meters for moisture measurement in walls - handheld moisture meter

Handheld moisture meters for daily moisture measurement of materials can quickly check floorboards, walls, and panels for hidden moisture down to five centimeters deep. A moisture meter is thus particularly suitable for measuring moisture in ordinary houses and buildings.

A moisture meter can complement a thermal camera. A professional moisture meter can save you many hours with a crowbar by allowing you to perform a quick measurement of moisture in walls and structures.

It is important to be aware of the wall and to react immediately if you discover mold on the wall. You can measure the wall yourself by using a moisture meter, ensuring that you measure in different places on the wall and preferably at different heights.

Where does the moisture come from?

There can be many reasons why moisture damages your walls. Moisture can come from the outer wall, which may be due to your joints being leaky. However, it can also be condensation that makes your walls damp. This is often seen in older and poorly insulated homes with poor indoor climates, which cause moisture problems.

It can also be due to damage to the gutters, which soak the walls. Most importantly, it can be due to your behavior in the home. This can be that you dry your clothes indoors or that you do not ventilate regularly. Therefore, you should ensure to ventilate daily and get the humidity down to around 35-40% to avoid all the hassle with moisture and the acquisition of moisture meters, etc.

Humidity meter

A handheld measuring instrument for moisture measurement is called a humidity meter or a thermo-hygrometer. The advantage of handheld measuring equipment is that it can be taken along. This way, you can easily reveal moisture and mold damage with a portable moisture meter.

A humidity meter can monitor the moisture level at a given location. For prolonged measurements, we recommend setting up moisture data loggers, which automatically monitor the relevant climate around the clock.

Testo's pocket line of small portable measuring instruments also includes a moisture meter. For more advanced needs for measuring moisture levels, we have, among others, Testo 608-H1.

Effective moisture measurement with data loggers

A data logger can also function as a moisture meter. A data logger for humidity measurement can range from a mini data logger like Testo 174H, which only measures moisture and temperature at a single location, making it suitable for measuring moisture in small warehouses, offices, etc., all the way up to Testo 176 P1 data logger with internal absolute pressure sensor.

Additionally, the data logger can measure temperature and moisture. Monitoring all parameters makes T176-P1 ideal for laboratories in the pharmaceutical industry. Contact us – and we will find the right moisture logger for your needs.

We can calibrate and set up your humidity data loggers from a single moisture logger all the way up to large freezer rooms with 100 data loggers for moisture measurement. We can also perform validation of cold rooms, where we use our own moisture loggers for qualification and validation. Keep an eye on your indoor climate and your immediate environment using data loggers for moisture measurement.

Find the right moisture meter

Moisture meters: an easy way to monitor and control moisture. A moisture meter is an important instrument for monitoring and controlling moisture in various environments, including homes, industrial facilities, and agriculture. With a moisture meter, you get an accurate measurement of the moisture percentage in air and materials, and you also identify potential moisture problems before they develop and cause greater damage.

Are you working with moisture measurement and need an accurate humidity meter? At Buhl & Bønsøe, you can find several varieties of moisture meters for effective moisture measurement. We have everything you need for your daily work. Check out our large selection of moisture meters and find out which moisture meter you need.

Measure moisture in materials with a moisture meter

Find a moisture meter for material moisture measurement. Testo's moisture meters quickly measure moisture levels in building materials such as wood, plaster, or walls. You turn on the moisture meter, place it on the material to be measured, and a second later, the moisture content is displayed on the large display of your moisture meter.

Data logging

Data logger for moisture measurement cloud-based or manual. We sell all kinds of data loggers for measuring moisture. Both manual moisture loggers and Saveris cloud-based data monitoring systems. By clicking on the individual images, you can read more about the moisture data loggers we sell. Most of these moisture loggers are in stock in Smørum, where you can also have a chat with our product specialists about the optimal measurement setup in your specific situation.

Data logger for documentation of moisture

If you need a standalone data logger temperature to measure moisture levels, we recommend Testo 174, which is a mini data logger designed for logging moisture and temperature. You can measure up to 16,000 measurements before you need to download data from the logger. This is done with a USB docking station that must be purchased separately. The moisture logger can be hung up and set to measure, for example, every quarter hour around the clock. You can always read the status on the display or set the alarm on the logger, so it gives a signal if a threshold value is exceeded.

Wireless data loggers for measuring moisture

If you want the advantage of being able to connect many data loggers together in a large and centrally controlled system, you should get the Saveris data loggers. You can connect up to 150 data loggers together in an infrared network that cannot be compromised from the outside as there is no external access to data monitoring from outside. This gives you the advantage of a large logger network, but without the security risk that can be present in a data logger network with internet access.

Wifi moisture data loggers

Cloud-based data loggers can be connected in large extensive networks with up to 150 data loggers linked to a measurement base; you can connect several measurement bases together and thus operate even more moisture loggers. Data monitoring occurs centrally from a computer that allows access from the internet, meaning you will always be able to log into your data loggers and read data, as it all takes place over the internet. Wireless moisture meters connected via the internet.
